I bought this grinder for my French Press and it grinds the beans perfectly. It slid right out. Anyway, I freaked out after reading a reviewer's comments and how they had to throw theirs away after doing the same thing I had done.
The container wasn't sitting flush so I pulled it right off and found my mistake. I figured I'd return it and pack it up.I put the bean container back on and turned it counter-clockwise all the way as far as it would go. After my 2nd week, though, as I was rushing to make some coffee, I placed the burr in upside down and didn't realize it until I put the bean container on top and turned it to one of the course settings.
I couldn't remove the burr no matter how hard I tried. It kinda threw me that I could pull the container off without turning it back to the starting position. It's supposed to be locked.
I don't know what made me do it but I took the bean container out and tried to pull out the burr again and voila. So if you're a dunce like me and you place the burr in upside down, just make sure the bean container slot is in its starting position and you can remove the burr just fine.
The product performs as advertised. It is convenient to grind just the amount you need each time you make your expresso. Consequently your drink is fresh and flavorful.
I bought one of these off a recommendation from a friend who is a roastmaster at a local bean store. I've bought another for work, another for my mother, and given one to a good friend who had a MUCH earlier model that was a little messier than this one. It has met every expectation of mine. It spends 95% of its days grinding drip, but has certainly been put through the full range of its French press --> espresso capability. The hopper is capacious, cleanup is simple, and the time is reliable. I couldn't ask for more.
This machine does not produce a grind fine enough for expresso machines like the Rancilio Silvia (mine). If you follow the 20-25 seconds rule for extraction time, forget about purchasing this item. The coffee will come out the portafilter way too fast.
I liked this grinder. It was not very noisy, gave a consistent grind and was not messy. Unfortunately it stopped working after about three months of use.
